Baby feeding at 2 months: finding the rhythm

It’s baby’s third month and your parenting habits are starting to set in! Baby may already be finding his rhythm a little too, to which you need to adapt. How to manage feeding your child at 2 months ? Our advices.

How does a two month old baby eat?

On average, a two-month-old baby weighs a little over 4,5 kg. For its food, we keep good habits put in place during its first two months: breast milk or infant formula 1st age is still its only source of power.

Bottle, breastfeeding, mixed: the best milk for your awakening

The World Health Organization recommends, for the health of the baby, his exclusive breastfeeding for up to six months. But if, after two months of breastfeeding, you can no longer or no longer wish to breastfeed, it is possible to switch to 100% first-age infant milk, chosen with care, following the strict standards of European regulations and adapted to his needs, orgradually introduce the bottles alternating with breastfeeding.

The infant formulas are enriched in vitamins, proteins or essential fatty acids and are the only possible food sources for your baby: animal or vegetable milk for adults does not meet the needs of your infant and can be very dangerous for his health.

Quantity: how many ml of milk should baby drink per day at 2 months?

At two months, feedings or bottles are made on demand: it is the baby who asks for them. On average, your baby will then consume more milk with each feeding or each bottle, and you can switch to a bottle size of 120 ml.

In general, baby claims at this stage 6 bottles per day of 120 ml, i.e. between 700 and 800 ml per day.

Corresponding doses of milk in each bottle

If you are using powdered infant formula, this means that on average, you can add 4 doses of powdered infant formula to 1 ml of water.

These numbers remain indications and averages, if baby asks for more bottles or feeds or if he does not finish his bottles, it is better to monitor his needs and talk to your pediatrician than to force him to fit into these boxes.

How to give a rhythm to baby’s feeding at 2 months?

From two months, baby’s appetite starts to settle. He calls for hours a little more regular and you may notice that he drinks more milk at a certain time of the day. For some, hunger is more persistent in the morning, for others in the evening! The most important is to respect his rhythm and their needs and discuss them with your pediatrician if you are worried about anything or if you notice that the baby’s growth chart is not progressing as before.

What time for my baby’s last bottle?

Again, there is no golden rule, your best bet is to stay tuned to your newborn baby’s needs and appetite. On average, you can try to set up a last bottle between 22 p.m. and 23 p.m. at the latest. Also pay attention to baby regurgitation, during the day and after the last bottle. Frequent and harmless, they are made up of milk and saliva and occur immediately after bottles or feedings. On the other hand, if these regurgitations seem too important to you, if the baby cries when he has regurgitations or if he does not gain weight: speak quickly with your pediatrician.
