Gastritis diet

The text is for informational purposes only. We urge you not to use diets, do not resort to any medical menus and fasting without medical supervision. Recommended reading: “Why you can not go on a diet on your own.” A diet for gastritis is a special diet of foods that are gentle on the mucous membrane of the stomach wall and correct the intensity of the production of gastric juices.

Inflammatory and irritating processes in the stomach are known as gastritis. There are many prerequisites for inflammation of the mucous membrane: malnutrition, bacterial activity, excessive consumption of alcohol, drugs (especially non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), acidic foods, smoking.

Gastritis may appear suddenly or develop slowly over a long period of time. Initially, symptoms (dyspepsia, nausea, pain, loss of appetite) may be almost unnoticeable and cause no cause for concern. But over time, especially if the disease is not treated, inflammation of the mucosa is complicated by an ulcer or other more dangerous ailments.

It is important to remember: getting rid of gastritis is not about removing unpleasant symptoms, but about eliminating the source of irritation and restoring the functions of the gastric mucosa.

Treatment of gastritis always depends on the causes of the disease. First you need to eliminate them and, if the symptoms persist, begin treatment. A properly selected diet for gastritis can speed up the healing process. But in order to competently choose a diet, it is worth remembering the features of each form of gastritis.

Gastritis and its classification

There are several classifications of the disease. Distinguish:

  1. Primary gastritis (destruction of mucous by exogenous factors).
  2. Secondary (appears on the background of other diseases).

Based on the patient’s symptoms and well-being, there are two forms of the disease:

  1. Ostrum.
  2. Chronic.

An acute form is classified as follows:

  1. Fibrinous gastritis (manifested in some infectious diseases, when gastric cells degenerate).
  2. Catarrhal (damaged upper layer of the mucous; cause stress, parasites, toxins, potent medicines).
  3. Phlegmonous (purulent inflammation of the stomach; the cause is infections, parasites).
  4. Corrosive (the reason – poisoning by toxins, can cause peritonitis or renal failure).

Types of chronic gastritis:

  1. Chronic type A gastritis is a primary autoimmune gastritis (fundal).
  2. Type B – antral bacterial origin.
  3. Type C – reflux gastritis.

Symptoms of the disease, causes and diagnosis

Acute gastritis usually begins suddenly with gastrointestinal discomfort or nausea. Chronic develops slowly, in some cases it is asymptomatic.

Common symptoms:

  1. Gastrointestinal discomfort. Burning pain in the upper abdomen, feeling of fullness, dyspepsia, belching, active intestinal peristalsis, loss of appetite and weight.
  2. Nausea. Vomiting causes corrosive gastritis. Sometimes vomit may be with blood (in chronic form).
  3. Weakness. It is usually provoked by a lack of vitamin B12, which is practically not absorbed in gastritis.
  4. Complications. In some cases, untreated gastritis provokes cancer.

There are several methods for diagnosing gastritis:

  • endoscopy of the stomach, which allows to clearly see the condition of the mucous membrane;
  • stool analysis for blood;
  • Exhaled air test to detect the presence of gastritis-causing bacteria.

In the fight against any disease in the first place you need to understand the causes of its occurrence.

There are several reasons for inflammation of the gastric mucosa:

  • infection, triggered by a virus, fungus, parasite;
  • stomach irritation;
  • autoimmune disorders;
  • getting bile into the stomach;
  • regular use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
  • abuse of coffee and sour drinks;
  • smoking;
  • alcohol;
  • stresses.

By the way, an unbalanced state of mind is a serious cause of gastritis. Anxiety, anxiety, tension, nervousness, irritation are increasingly becoming the basis for the appearance of pain in the stomach, leading to the development of an ulcer.

General Diet Recommendations

  1. Diet for gastritis in the first place provides for a restriction in the amount of food. At the stage of exacerbation, 2 days of corrected nutrition are enough to improve the condition. In some cases, a good option is fruit unloading. But a tasty diet for gastritis is not for everyone. Fruits are prohibited in acute gastritis, as well as during an exacerbation of the chronic form.
  2. The next rule is to eat simple dishes, not to mix a lot of foods during one meal.
  3. Dinner – well before sleep.
  4. For patients with gastritis, it is important to avoid alcohol, cigarettes, seasonings, semi-finished products, spicy and sour foods (brines, cabbage soup). But a mix of freshly squeezed juices of carrots and spinach (proportion 10:6) is very useful.
  5. You should not drink water with food (especially with reduced secretion), as it dilutes the digestive juices, slowing down the digestion process. It is better to drink a glass of non-carbonated water 15 minutes before a meal or an hour later.
  6. Avoid rushing. To eat in a pleasant atmosphere, slowly, chewing food thoroughly.
  7. Moderate physical activity (swimming, running, yoga) helps to speed up the digestion process.

Permitted products for gastritis

  1. Fish, meat, poultry. For people with gastritis, it is best to make a diet of chicken and fish. Lenten fish cooked without the use of oil and spices is ideal for lunch. Allowed dietary meat, chicken without skin, seafood. Avoid salty, fried and fatty foods.
  2. Fruit. They are allowed in the chronic form of gastritis, as they are a natural medicine for the gastric mucosa. Especially pears, melons, bananas, peaches. But it is important not to combine the use of fruits with other foods: fructose, in combination with foods from another category, begins to ferment in the stomach, forming alcohol. Oranges, grapefruits, sour berries and dried fruits are undesirable in the diet – they irritate the mucous membrane.
  3. Baking and flour products. Give preference to products made from wholemeal flour or from whole grains. Give up pancakes, biscuits, white bread, and vermicelli – only from durum wheat, without the addition of sauces and spices.
  4. Vegetables. Consume slightly cooked. Avoid beans, tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic and individually intolerant vegetables.
  5. Dairy. It is an excellent source of calcium and vitamin D, necessary for the health of the body. However, people with a diagnosis of “gastritis” are desirable to limit the consumption of “milk”. It is better to give preference not to cow’s milk, but to soy milk. Salty and fatty cheeses are also avoided, it is better to eat tofu. You can treat yourself to yogurt, but exclusively home-made – without chemical additives and sugar.
  6. Seasonings. Sea salt, herbs (rosemary, parsley, basil, oregano).
  7. Cereals. Brown rice, oats, barley, corn, wheat.
  8. Beverages. Proper fluid intake is essential to any diet. Therapeutic is no exception. It is advisable to drink 6 glasses of pure non-carbonated water daily. Herbal teas are also acceptable, but black coffee, soda, and alcohol should be avoided.

Prohibited products

A strict diet for gastritis puts a taboo on fatty fried foods (to replace boiled and steamed), salt and spices (act on the inflamed gastric mucosa as an irritant). Avoid raw vegetables, especially when it comes to chronic gastritis. Remove from the diet alcoholic beverages, exacerbating the pain. Also refuse products that provoke an acidic environment in the stomach: fresh juices from citrus, coffee drinks, strong tea, caffeinated cola.

Diet for different types of gastritis

Antral gastritis

Antral gastritis in the specialized literature is called type B gastritis. The disease of the gastric mucosa in this case is caused by bacteria. There are superficial and erosive antral gastritis.

Superficial gastritis

The cause of superficial antral gastritis is usually an infection. This type of disease does not affect the glands and does not leave scars on the surface of the stomach. Treatment is a diet, with antral gastritis it is traditional – as with most diseases of the gastrointestinal system.

To start, be sure to delete from the menu:

  • all spices, products with preservatives, flavor enhancers, flavors;
  • pickles; pickles;
  • sharp;
  • concentrated broths;
  • raw vegetables.

Often the words “gastritis”, “treatment”, “diet” terrify many people to think that they had to abandon their favorite food forever. But this does not deprive the patient of the chance to eat tasty. Diet for superficial gastritis allows you to create a menu of dietary meats, lean fish, vegetables in mashed potatoes, fruits (in the form of drinks and mousses), cereals (not dairy), low-fat cottage cheese.

Observing medical nutrition, it is important to know: the temperature of food consumed should not exceed 60 degrees on the Celsius scale, and also not be colder than 15 degrees.

Optimal experts call food within 37 degrees. Regarding servings and daily ration, then throughout the day the total weight of food should not exceed 3000 grams. At the same time, all food divided into such portions:

  • breakfast – 30% of daily calories;
  • snack – 15%;
  • lunch – 40%;
  • dinner – 15%.

In some cases, the patient is credited with a diet with 6-8 meals a day, also adhering to the rules for calculating calories. Dinner no later than 2 hours before bedtime.

Diet for chronic gastritis with high acidity provides an exception to the diet of food that can “hurt” the mucous membrane. The sample menu for 7 days looks like this.

First day menu:

  • have buckwheat and tea for breakfast, eat a boiled egg for lunch, have soup with oatmeal porridge and potato zrazy for lunch, and cook steamed fish cakes with pasta for dinner.

A diet for exacerbation of gastritis with high acidity is a therapeutic diet built on the principle of protecting the gastric mucosa. To do this, for the duration of treatment, it is important to abandon the “coarse” food (raw vegetables, bran bread, fried). The optimal food temperature is 15-60 degrees Celsius. The diet for hyperacid gastritis prohibits foods that stimulate secretion. These are alcohol, soda, citrus juices, caffeine, fatty broths, hot spices.

Erosive gastritis

Erosive gastritis occurs under the influence of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori or as a result of long-term medication. It has 2 stages – acute and chronic. In the first case, the patient complains of discomfort in the stomach, pain, and the stool becomes black (due to blood that has entered the intestines from stomach ulcers). At the chronic stage – the mucous membrane of the stomach is strewn with sores of different diameters, the patient is bothered by heartburn, nausea, lack of appetite, belching, pain occurs after eating.

A diet for erosive gastritis requires excluding spicy and fried foods, fatty meat and fish, all types of mushrooms, rich broths, coffee, and cabbage from the usual menu. Method of cooking – boiling or steaming.

If we are talking about a disease provoked by a specific bacterium, then a diet for Helicobacter pylori gastritis without drug treatment will not be effective. The symptoms of this type of ailment are classic for gastritis: stomach discomfort, nausea, hungry pains in the abdomen, but after eating they disappear. Ulcerative gastritis of any origin is characterized by the same signs as ordinary gastritis, which is why it is so important to laboratory establish or exclude the presence of Helicobacter pylori in the body. A cure for ulcers on the gastric mucosa is possible only after getting rid of bacteria, only with proper nutrition this cannot be achieved. The treatment program is complex, consists of several stages.

It is important to know that a diet for erosive gastritis with high acidity should include a lot of fluids (drinks) with neutral acidity: non-carbonated mineral water, teas with chamomile and mint, low-fat dairy drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (best apple and carrot). It would not be superfluous to recall that a diet for gastritis and erosion of the stomach is a complete ban on acidic foods and drinks, as well as alcohol and soda. Like the diet for gastritis in the acute stage, clinical nutrition in the presence of erosions and ulcers prohibits fast food and all types of junk food.

Atrophic gastritis

Atrophic gastritis differs from other types in that as a result of an illness in a patient, the mucous membrane of the stomach becomes thinner. The result of this process is a sharp decrease in the production of enzymes and hydrochloric acid, necessary for digestion. This is one of the most dangerous forms of the disease, but proper nutrition is the key to successful treatment.

A diet for atrophic gastritis with low acidity requires the removal of indigestible foods from the daily diet. And these are: hard meat, legumes, mushrooms, pastries, brown bread, breadcrumbs, canned food, raw vegetables and fruits, fatty milk, lard, smoked meats, soda. Patients with gastritis with foci of atrophy, it is important to eat foods that enhance the secretion of the stomach and increase appetite.

So, a diet for atrophic gastritis of the stomach consists of vegetable soups, dietary meat (chicken, pigeon, rabbit), lean fish, seafood, dairy products, eggs, fruits, vegetables (boiled), drinks, cereals, fats. Also allowed marmalade, sweets, jelly, sugar and honey, table salt is better to replace the sea, but alcohol is strictly prohibited. Medical food provides cooking on a pair or in the oven. A diet for focal atrophic gastritis should include in the diet of salt-alkaline or alkaline mineral water (such as Borjomi). A glass of mineral water drunk an hour before a meal promotes the production of gastric juice.

Sample menu

Breakfast:

  • rolled oats on milk;
  • cottage cheese casserole;
  • tea.

Lunch:

  • chicken broth;
  • noodles;
  • boiled fish;
  • grated carrots (glass).

Snack:

  • rosehip tea.

Dinner:

  • steamed patties (rabbit);
  • Mashed potatoes;
  • Hercules milk;
  • tea with milk – a glass.

Also, the daily menu may include 25 grams of sugar and butter, wheat bread. But strict “hungry” diets should be avoided, especially if it is a diet for atrophic gastritis with high acidity. It is advisable to take food in small portions, but often – 4-5 times a day.

Atrophic inflammation of the gastric mucosa in its early stages is called subatrophic gastritis. Diet for subatrophic gastritis is not different from the recommendations given above.

It is important to remember: the sooner you start treatment, in particular, review your diet, the faster you can get rid of unpleasant symptoms and forget about the disease forever.

Lymphocytic gastritis

Another rather rare form of the disease is lymphocytic gastritis. This type of disease is most often diagnosed in people over 70 years of age. What is the main cause of the disease, experts do not undertake to judge unambiguously, but they name two possible options:

  • bacterium Helicobacter pylori;
  • gluten intolerance (gluten).

In addition, lovers of fried, smoked and fatty foods are at risk. That is why, speaking about the diet for the lymphocytic form of gastritis, first of all, attention is focused on the need to refuse junk food. The second step is a gluten-free diet and nutrition according to the principles of treatment table 1.

Hyperplastic gastritis

Hyperplastic gastritis is a chronic inflammation of the gastric mucosa, as a result of which the mucosa thickens, becomes edematous, and polyps may form. The causes of its occurrence are very different: from food allergies to infection, malnutrition, violations of the process of protein metabolism in the body. The symptoms of the disease are also wide-ranging and mostly traditional for gastritis: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, belching, stool disturbance.

A therapeutic diet for hyperplastic gastritis lasts at least 2 months. At this time, delete from the usual diet:

  • alcoholic beverages;
  • meat and fish broths;
  • spices, canned food, pickles;
  • fried, smoked, fatty, salty;
  • baking, sweets, coffee.

Preference is given to steamed or boiled dishes, without salt and spices.

Gastritis and gastrointestinal diseases

Gastritis and pancreatitis

Gastritis and pancreatitis, though different diseases affect different organs (stomach and pancreas), but, as practice shows, they often go together. A patient with gastritis in most cases is diagnosed with pancreatitis or vice versa.

These diseases of the gastrointestinal tract have much in common. And in the first place – an identical treatment process, the first place in which is occupied not so much by medical preparations, as by a proper diet. Adhering to clinical nutrition, there is every chance to get rid of health troubles. Moreover, the diet, though called “gentle”, but remains tasty, with a varied diet and full of calories.

If the beginning of treatment was preceded by acute gastritis or aggravated pancreatitis, then a day or two is better to sit on medical fasting (allowed to use only mineral water without gases). And only after this stage to enter into the menu liquid porridges, vegetable purees, jelly and fruit drinks, gradually expanding the diet. Introducing new products into the menu, it is important to consider the type of gastritis, since treatment and the type of diet depend on this nuance.

Drawing up the menu for the week for a patient with gastritis and pancreatitis, it is important to consider:

  • food to steam, bake, boil;
  • eat 5 once a day in small portions;
  • emphasis on liquid and semi-liquid food;
  • limit in the diet of fats and carbohydrates.

The diagnosis of gastritis and pancreatitis puts a taboo on the use of broths, fatty meats, smoked meats, canned foods, spices, raw vegetables and fruits, soda, alcohol, ice cream.

But what should not be forgotten is about soups with cereals, vegetable and fruit purees, steamed meatballs, omelets, jelly, jellies and compotes. Diet for pancreatitis and gastritis is based on these products.

Gastritis and cholecystitis

The organs of the gastrointestinal tract are closely interconnected and if the failure of one of them gives one of them, it will certainly affect the work of the “neighbors”. So, in parallel with the diagnosis of “gastritis”, other diseases are often encountered, for example, cholecystitis – inflammation in the gallbladder, which eventually leads to changes in the walls of the organ, and stagnation of bile. The disease is accompanied by cutting pains in the right side of the abdomen, to which gastritis symptoms are added: nausea, pain, lack of appetite.

The diet for gastritis and cholecystitis includes: soups, crackers, dietary meat and fish, omelettes, low-fat “milk”, vegetable purees, fruit mousses.

It is strictly prohibited fatty, fried, spicy foods, smoked meats, spicy dishes, beans, tomatoes, onions, pastries, coffee, ice cream.

It is easy to imagine what the daily diet should look like if a diet for cholecystitis and gastritis is prescribed, based on gastronomic recommendations. Below is a table and an example of dishes.

BreakfastOatmeal, omelette, tea.
SnackCottage cheese and a little sour cream, baked apple.
DinnerSoup with vegetables and vermicelli, steamed cutlets, boiled potato puree, dried fruit compote.
SnackKissel, dry biscuits.
DinnerSteamed fish, rice soufflé, kefir.

At the stage of exacerbation of gastritis and cholecystitis, it is important to make a fasting day on liquid products (water, herbal teas, fruit drinks). Repeat if necessary for 2-3 days. After a smooth transition to a healthy diet, trying to adhere to a healthy lifestyle, avoid stress.

Gastritis and esophagitis

In esophagitis, inflammation of the esophagus can be asymptomatic. But with the progression of the disease, there are unpleasant symptoms, such as heartburn (aggravated after spicy and fatty foods, coffee, soda). Other symptoms include sour eructation, pain and burning sensation behind the sternum. There are several causes of esophagitis, one of them is gastritis and reflux (gastric juice and bile reflux).

The diet for esophagitis and gastritis primarily involves the exclusion of a number of products. This is alcohol, coffee, citrus, fatty, fried, spicy foods, tomatoes. Also it is necessary to exclude spices that cause heartburn (garlic, pepper, cloves, cinnamon).

According to the recommendations of experts, a diet for heartburn and gastritis is:

  • fractional meals in small portions;
  • a glass of boiled water before each meal;
  • Milk, rosehip tea, chamomile tea, apple compote, bananas, plums, peaches and pears included in the diet;
  • complete abandonment of alcohol and night meals;
  • regular walks after meals;
  • “emphasis” on yogurt, cottage cheese, kefir, oatmeal and wheat porridge.

A diet for reflux gastritis is a nutritional system known as table 1 (used to treat gastrointestinal diseases). Diet number 1 for gastritis and esophagitis lasts about 3-5 months, and the diet is selected in such a way as to exclude as much as possible foods that stimulate the production of gastric secretion. The diet for esophagitis and gastritis is also based on the principles of table number 1 nutrition.

Gastritis and duodenitis

Duodenitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the 12-duodenum) often occurs as a result of untreated gastritis (atrophic, helicobacter). It is possible to diagnose gastritis and duodenitis in oneself by symptoms:

  • abdominal pain (sharp, pulling);
  • nausea and vomiting;
  • breaking stool.

If cutting pains under the spoon and in the navel are added to these symptoms, this is already bulbitis – a chronic inflammation of the 12 duodenal ulcer. The diet for bulbitis and gastritis is based on the rejection of everything fatty, fried, spicy, spicy, sour, containing caffeine.

Proper diet for duodenitis and gastritis will relieve the discomfort for a couple of days. If the disease is not treated, it will outgrow from the acute to the chronic form with its inherent erosions and atrophic phenomena.

Healing diet in the acute period, it is desirable to start from two days of fasting and bed rest. The menus for the following days are the 1 diet and the 1 diet a.

Food rules for duodenitis and gastritis:

  • food body temperature;
  • eating limited portions 5-6 times a day;
  • daily use of soups with cereals and vegetables (create an enveloping effect);
  • eat dietary meat (boiled, steamed), non-acidic “milk”, omelettes, vegetable and fruit purees;
  • limit salt intake, but sugar and marmalade are allowed.

If the goal is not just to get rid of unpleasant symptoms for a while, but to recover forever, you will have to adhere to these rules of nutrition for a longer time.

Prohibited products for duodenitis and gastritis:

  • soda, coffee, strong tea;
  • roast;
  • pork, lamb;
  • black bread and pastry;
  • mushrooms;
  • chocolate, chewing gum.

In addition, if gastritis is accompanied by high acidity, exclude sour juices, broths and fruits (citrus) from the daily menu.

Treatment of gastritis in children

“Gastritis. Treatment. Diet ”- even adults perceive these words with caution, because not everyone can so easily abandon their usual way of life and radically change the nutrition system. And what about children then? But especially for such cases, there is a diet for a child with gastritis – tasty, designed taking into account the characteristics of the child’s body and the diet necessary for the normal functioning of the entire digestive system.

Nutritionists have developed many menu options for treating children, but the basis for all was the diet for Pevsner gastritis. It provides for 6 meals, the diet consists of well-cooked and mashed mashed foods.

Sample menu for children

  • Breakfast: steamed omelette, grated cheese, cocoa.
  • Snack: jelly, apple, baked with honey.
  • Lunch: carrot soup with rice (pureed), veal meatballs, juice.
  • Snack: kefir / yogurt.
  • Dinner: cottage cheese and fruit puree, boiled shrimps, tea with honey and milk.

Fruit Diet

With the exacerbation of gastritis such food is categorically not suitable, but for a chronic illness (not in the acute stage) it will fit.

To begin with, the first 2-3 days of a diet to spend on juices, which will remove toxins. The following 2-3 of the day ration to make from fruit. It is better to choose juicy apples, pears, grapes, pineapples, peaches, melons. The next stage is a smooth transition to a more varied diet. Include every day a product from a new group (nuts, cereals, vegetables and fruits).

Dish recipes

Making up the menu for every day for a patient with gastritis, it is important that all foods are easily digestible, fiber-rich vegetables and fruits, and cereals. But pepper, garlic, onions, as well as kari and cinnamon are best avoided, as they provoke heartburn. Low-fat dairy products are also useful for gastritis – they allow you to control the secretion of the stomach. Below are recipes made up of what you can eat in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
