How to quickly teach a child time by the clock

By learning how to tell the time, children can better organize their daily routine and become more disciplined. While they are still small and the brain is not overloaded with a large amount of information, they need to be taught to orient themselves in time.

What it takes to teach a child about time

To teach a child about time, one important condition is required – he must already master the count to 100. Children master this skill by the age of 5-7 years. Without this skill, it will be very difficult to understand the principle of the movement of time.

Playing with the clock will help teach the child the time

In addition to counting up to 100, it is important that children already know how to:

  • write numbers from 1 to 100;
  • distinguish these numbers from each other;
  • count at intervals of 5: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and so on.

It is important that the child does not just memorize the numbers, but also understand the differences in the account. Only after that, you can start classes on determining the time by the clock.

Ways to teach your child to watch the clock

To begin with, the child must understand what time is. He needs to explain that it is the only quantity that moves only forward and its course cannot be changed. The clock was invented by man to measure time.

The child needs to be explained that:

  • 1 hour is 60 minutes. It is necessary to show clearly that 1 revolution of the minute hand is equal to 1 hour.
  • 1 minute includes 60 seconds. Then demonstrate the movement of the second hand.
  • After he understands what an hour is, you need to explain what parts an hour consists of: half an hour is 30 minutes, a quarter of an hour is 15 minutes.

The child must also learn such concepts as morning, afternoon, evening and night time, how many hours are in the day. Along the way, you need to explain how to say hello if it is morning or evening.

In order for children to better understand the movement of the hour, minute and second hands, purchase or make a play dial with their own hands. After the child begins to understand the time, you can give him a bright wrist watch.

Play is a quick way to teach your child about time

You can draw several dials: depict, for example, 11.00 o’clock and sign – the beginning of the cartoon, 14.30 – we go to the water park. Or do the opposite – draw a dial without arrows, stick pictures or photographs in which a girl or boy goes to bed, gets up in the morning, brushes their teeth, have breakfast, lunch, go to school, play on the playground. After that, ask your child to set the time and draw the hour and minute hands.

It is important to conduct classes with a child in a fun way, so he will better understand and assimilate new knowledge.

From an early age, modern children are interested in various gadgets and are very fond of playing interactive games. In the process of teaching a child about time, you can use educational video games, show him special cartoons, read fairy tales about time.

Teaching a child about time is not difficult, you just need to show patience. In no case do not scold children if they do not understand something. As a result, you can get the opposite effect – the child will withdraw into himself and, possibly, begin to shy away from classes. If your child has done well in the time study exercises, be sure to praise him. Activities should be fun for children and a desire to learn new things.
