How to save spicy food: 6 life hacks

Quite by accident, you can not only add spice to a dish, but make it practically inedible due to its strong spiciness. These tips will help fix the situation and save lunch or dinner.

1. Dilute

To reduce the concentration of hot seasoning in a dish, you can increase its volume. For example, dilute spicy soup with an additional portion of broth or broth. If your dish contains grains, legumes, or vegetables, you can simply add a fresh portion of these ingredients.

2. Add acid

The acid can muffle the pungent taste. To neutralize hot spices, use vinegars or freshly squeezed juice of some citrus fruits – lemon, lime. Any other organic acid-containing product, such as tomatoes, can be used as long as they do not contradict the concept of the dish.

 

3. Add sweets

Sugar has a less pronounced neutralizing effect. But if you combine it with acid, it intensifies. Sugar should be added with care, it is not a dessert. Alternatively, you can use honey or a high-sugar sauce such as ketchup.

4. Add milk

Milk, sour cream or yogurt – any of these foods will make the pungent taste less pronounced. If the dairy product cannot be added to the dish itself, you can prepare a sauce based on it and serve it with a spicy dish.

5. Add vegetables

Vegetables like potatoes and carrots can save a spicy meal. Their porous structure will absorb the pepper. Before adding to the dish, they should be finely chopped or grated.

6. Add nut butter

Nut butter, especially almond butter, can help soften the taste of spicy foods. However, oil can neutralize the pungency of any spice, except for pepper, added in pure form.
