How to transfer a child to home schooling and is it worth doing

Every year, about 100 children in Russia are in family education. More and more parents are evaluating schooling as uncomfortable. Now you can do this on a completely legal basis at your own request, and not as before, only because of illness.

How to transfer a child to home schooling

Before deciding to change the learning environment for your children, you need to consider whether you can not only provide them with the opportunity to master the school curriculum, but create conditions for active communication with peers. If the decision is made, then the transfer to home schooling is not difficult, does not require a lot of documents and consists of the following stages.

Home schooling of the child is possible at the request of the parents

  • You should first check if there is a homeschooling clause in your school’s charter. If not, then contact the administration directly or find another school.
  • Come to school with your passport and child’s birth certificate, write an application for transfer to the director’s name. A medical certificate is required only if the transfer is associated with illness. In the application, you must indicate the subjects that the child will pass on their own, and the number of hours to master each of them.
  • Prepare a schedule of educational activities and reporting, coordinate it with the school administration.
  • After completing all the documents, conclude an agreement with the school and determine mutual rights and obligations, as well as the timing of certification in the disciplines studied.
  • Get a journal from an educational institution in which you will need to write down the topics studied and put down grades.

Thus, the process of changing the training regime is not very difficult. Another question is how appropriate and consistent with the interests of the child. The answer to this question largely depends on the reasons for the transition to home schooling.

Transferring a child to home schooling: advantages and disadvantages

Debates about the benefits and disadvantages of homeschooling are ongoing among educators and parents alike. It is difficult to take an unambiguous position here, since the consequences of such training largely depend on the specific conditions created by the parents, and on the individual characteristics of the student.

Home Learning Benefits:

  • the ability to adjust the standard school curriculum;
  • more flexible distribution of study time;
  • the possibility of in-depth study of individual subjects, depending on the interests of the student;
  • development of independence and initiative of the child.

Disadvantages:

  • socialization problems, since the child does not learn to work in a team, even if he communicates a lot with peers;
  • the student does not acquire the skills of public speaking and conducting discussions;
  • without the experience of group teaching, the child may subsequently have difficulties in the university:
  • not all parents are able to organize their child’s home teaching in a way that is effective enough.

Studying school subjects at home, especially when it comes to younger students, is undoubtedly attractive. After all, it is more gentle, more flexible and even more intelligent. But we must also take into account the fact that by transferring a child to home schooling, we deprive him not only of problems and difficulties, but also of many joys associated with school, communication with classmates.
