‘Star’ meat-eating chef goes vegan

Or almost vegan. Gordon James Ramsay is the first Scot to be awarded three Michelin stars (the highest award in haute cuisine), and one of the best – and certainly the most famous! British chefs. Ramsay is the author of a dozen books and host of popular British and American TV cooking shows (Swearword, Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares and The Devil’s Kitchen). At the same time, Ramsay is an ardent apologist for meat-eating and a hater of veganism – at least he was until recently.

In one of his interviews, Gordon made the infamous statement: “My worst nightmare is if the children come up to me one day and say, dad, we are now vegetarians. I’d put them on a fence and electrocute them.” This anti-vegetarian hate comment was widely shared in the UK, and has not gone unnoticed by vegans and vegetarians around the world.

Sir Paul McCartney, one of two living Beatles and a vegetarian for over 30 years, even considered it his duty to comment on this statement by the infamous TV star. “I just found out what Ramsay said – that they will never forgive their daughter if she becomes a vegetarian … I believe that one should live and let others live. I tell everyone about the benefits of vegetarianism, and I’m sorry when people make such stupid statements.

On another occasion on a TV show, Ramsay was rude to singer Cheryl Cole (2009 FHM’s “Sexiest Woman in the World” in XNUMX) on-air, asking her to leave when she entered the studio, saying, “Don’t you know? Vegetarians are not allowed here.”

In general, Gordon has not only a good knowledge of haute cuisine, but also a bad reputation as a “vega-hater”. Imagine the surprise of the vegan public when Ramsay recently announced, among other things, that he switched to eating vegan smoothies! The fact is that Ramsay, who has long been fond of sports, is now preparing for one of the toughest triathlons in the world – in Kona, Hawaii. He needed to lose weight, and he succeeded: on vegetable smoothies, he had already lost the necessary 13 kg. It would be especially ironic if Ramsay, a militant meat-eater, went all out into the competition and unexpectedly won the podium by switching to a vegan diet!

The vegan media are pointing out that it should no longer be surprising if a hardcore meat eater like Ramsay could switch to a “green” diet – even if just for the sake of health and athletic performance!
