What parents spend the most money on

Is there a business more profitable than baby products? Perhaps not. Over the past 12 months, our compatriots have spent more than … 6,2 billion rubles in online stores on assortment for babies! Moreover, almost two of them – only in the first quarter of 2019.

The most popular goods were toys. And let all psychologists say that children should not have an abundance of them, the voice of reason is not available to a loving parent. Mothers, fathers and other caring relatives spent 1 billion 183 million rubles on children’s joys – 19 percent of the total. Moreover, the most popular toys are Lego constructors, and many of them are very expensive.

And in second place is a surprise! – diapers. The parents did not spare more than 938 million rubles to keep the babies’ butts warm and dry.

“Over the past year, sales of toys have grown by 2,9 times, and diapers by 4,5 times,” summarize the analysts of ATOL.

And where are the books that are the source of knowledge? They are in third place, along with educational games and other intellectual leisure. Only diapers are three times more popular. If they account for 15 percent of expenses, then literature is only 5 percent, and the average check is only 613 rubles. Further in descending order: 3 percent – clothes and shoes, 2 percent – cosmetics and baby care products.

“For clothing and footwear, most often bought children’s boots and tights, and for care products – children’s toothpaste and toilet soap with chamomile extract,” analysts say.

“There is an opinion that parents prefer to choose emotional, important purchases offline, and on the Internet – goods that are necessary for every day, so that their purchase takes as little time and effort as possible,” the founder of the ATOL IT company summed up the study. Alexey Makarov.
