When and how you can give bread to a child under one year old

With the introduction of complementary foods, the question of how many months a child can be given bread becomes an important question. Bread is an everyday product on our table, but there are certain recommendations regarding its introduction into the diet of babies.

The children’s diet should include the maximum amount of vitamins, nutrients and minerals. Bread contains B vitamins, vegetable protein and fiber.

Giving bread to a child under one year old needs a little

You need to introduce the child to him gradually.

  • The optimal age for the first sample of bread is seven months. Fresh bread is not suitable, it should be yesterday’s, or slightly dried in the oven. You can also give crackers. But in order to chew such food, the child must have teeth. If the first teeth have not yet erupted, the crackers should be soaked with water or milk mixture. Also, baking products are not suitable for the first acquaintance.
  • Fresh white bread can be given from 8-9 months, at this age it will be easily perceived by the body. The first portion should not exceed 3 g, if no allergic reaction is observed, this amount gradually increases. The maximum portion per year is 15-20 g. This is about a third of an ordinary piece.
  • Despite the generally accepted usefulness of rye and whole grain bread, these products are not recommended for children under one year old. It contains a large amount of coarse fiber that can irritate the intestines of children. Such food can be given to children from 2-3 years old.

Sweet buns, gingerbread, cookies and pastries are not given to children under one year old. They contain a large amount of simple carbohydrates that lead to rapid weight gain. At the same time, their nutritional value is low, the content of nutrients in them is very small. After a year, children should be given sweet pastries in moderation.

The introduction of bread into the diet at first can cause colic and abdominal pain in the child. In this case, the portion must be reduced.

How to give bread to a child under one year old – at lunchtime, along with the first courses. Homemade bread made in a bread maker is also suitable for children.
